A few of the younger Jays found their wings in conference play against Northern Iowa on Saturday. Booker Woodfox was on fire from behind the arc and backup point guard Cavel Witter looked the best he's been since the Drexel game. With the victory over Northern Iowa, Creighton is now 5-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play. They are in sole possession of 3rd place, behind undefeated Drake and a one-loss Illinois State.
Now, here's where it gets fun. The Bluejays battle the Drake Bulldogs twice on the hardwood between now and January 30th. The outcome of these two games will have a profound effect on how the Missouri Valley will be shaped for the rest of the season. Drake is an interesting team to me. First off, it's ridiculous that they're not in the top 25. They have done everything right (including wins over Iowa State and Iowa) and have only lost to St. Mary's, a very good team. If anyone doesn't think they've played anyone, just take a look at their RPI. With that being said, I'm still not sold on them. I believe that Illinois State is a better team and that Creighton can beat Drake in Omaha and in Des Moines. The reason I feel they should be in the top 25 is simply because they've earned it.
Update
After I wrote this, the polls came out Drake is ranked #23.
