Redbirds ravage the Jays

Wow. I was way off. I expected the Jays to pull this one off in a close match, but Illinois State dominated Creighton for the entire affair. In fact, the Bluejays are lucky the score was even that close.

For those of you who didn't get to see the game, it was embarrassing. Illinois State breezed through the Bluejay press all night. In the first half, #32 for the Redbirds could not miss from the three-point line. He stayed in the corner and had to have hit at least four three's in the first half. Even when the Jays got a hand in his face, he couldn't miss.

If you're a Creighton fan, you have to be concerned. There were so many defensive breakdowns in that game, I couldn't keep track. I'm not saying the season is over or that the Jays can't recover from this, but if they play anything close to this brand of basketball in conference play, they'll get demolished. Stinnet had a pretty good game stat-wise, but he had some bad turnovers and took some really bad shots that happened to go in.

Watts wasn't very effective down in the post in this game. He was harassed by defenders, so I can't blame him entirely, but they need some post presence to be successful in the Valley. Hopefully the Jays can bounce back tonight with a big win against McKenna and Indian State to get the ball rolling.
